In de maandelijkse reeks E*Cinema besteedt EYE Film Instituut Nederland aandacht aan de historische én hedendaagse experimentele film. Deze maand staat E*Cinema in het teken van 'Vijftig jaar Poolse avant-garde 1930 - 1980', een historische dwarsdoorsnede uit het werk van een vijftal gezichtsbepalende Poolse filmmakers, onder wie bekende namen als Roman Polanski, Jan Lenica en Walerian Borowczyk. De presentatie van de avond is in handen van de Poolse gastcurator Kamila Baczek. De selectie toont experimenteel werk van zeven verschillende filmmakers. Onder andere van Jan Lenica (Labirynt), de vermaarde Poolse graficus en afficheontwerper, die de Slavische voorliefde voor het absurde en surreële deelt met Walerian Borowczyk (La Bęte, 1975). Met de laatste regisseerde hij Dom (1958), een collagefilm over de psychologie van de moderne mens, die wordt gekweld door innerlijke tegenstrijdigheden. |

Roman Polanski baarde destijds opzien met zijn academiefilm. Twee mannen en een kast, een vervreemdende vertelling over twee mannen die worstelen met een meer dan manshoge kast, die overal agressie oproept. Drie van de vertoonde films zijn afkomstig uit de EYE-collectie (Dom, Labirynt, Twee Mannen en een kast).

E*Cinema 25 May: Polish Experimental Film
In
the monthly E*Cinema series the EYE Film Institute Netherlands focuses
on historical and contemporary film. This month E*Cinema features
'Fifty years of Polish avant-garde 1930 - 1980', an historical cross section
from the work of seven influential Polish filmmakers, including famous
names like Roman Polanski, Jan Lenica and Walerian Borowczyk. The evening
will be presented by the visiting Polish curator Kamila Baczek.
Experimental work by seven different filmmakers will be screened.
These include Jan Lenica (Labirynt), the renowned Polish graphic artist and poster designer, who shares the Slavic predilection for the absurd and surreal with Walerian Borowczyk (La Bęte, 1975). Together with the latter Lenica directed Dom (1958), a collage film about the psychology of the modern person, who is tormented by inner conflicts. Roman Polanski caused quite a commotion at the time with his academy film; Two Men and a Cupboard is an alienating narrative about two men who wrestle with a cupboard taller than a man, inciting aggression everywhere. Three of the films that will be screened are from the EYE collection (Dom, Labirynt and Two Men and a Cupboard).
